1) How does your community (school, town, country) select to remember World War II? Examples: holidays, memorials, songs, movies, books…
There are a lot of movies about World War II. At our cemetery we have a big memorial with all the names of soldiers from Zellhausen (my hometown) who died in the war.
A lot of cemeteries have a memorial of WWII.
I have seen one movie about the war. But I have forgotten the title. It is about a boy who is colored. He meets a white girl and they fall in love. But it is forbidden for colored people to be together with white people. So they keep it a secret. The war starts when they are fifteen.
The boy and his mother have to go into an air-raid shelter, and the boy never sees his girlfriend again. Their life after the war is very hard. Everything has been destroyed.
But this is only one movie and there are a lot of others.

2) Do you know of anyone who was involved in some aspect of the World War II? If so, what is their connection? If possible, can you send a picture?
My grandfather was a very young soldier (17 years old) in the war. My grandmother was a little child (4 years old) at the beginning. But she has told me a lot about the war. She and her family often had to live in their cellar. Sometimes they stayed there for a whole week without any electric light. They only had candles.

3) Is there anything else you would like to add?
No, I think I have told everything I know about World War II.
